Democrat John Fetterman kept the Pennsylvania Senate seat in the blues, defeating Trump-supported Republican television celebrity Mehmet Öz. The balance here was important as it was backed by the Republican candidate, Trump. Preliminary results generally point to gains in the House of Representatives, where Republicans are currently in the minority.

While the Republicans seem to have won the House of Representatives if there is no significant change in the current picture, the Senate race is critical. A divided Congress is expected, that is, the President is from a different party and the majority of the Congress is of a different structure. Of course, this means slowing down the legislative process and maintaining the balance in some critical decisions. There are many topics, especially inflation and the debt ceiling, and the Democratic Congress structure will mean an increase in spending, and the Republican Congress structure will mean a decrease. This is a situation that will affect the debt ceiling update for 2023.
In this structure, Biden’s plan to impose more taxes on corporations, especially oil companies, falls through. The Republican Congress structure has only one handicap: Since government expenditures will not be increased, the state of the defense budget will probably pose a question mark in an environment of Ukraine war and Chinese tension.
We continue to monitor the results.
